2022 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award
The Range Science Education Council (RSEC) and the Society for Range Management (SRM) proudly present the 2022 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award to Dr. Susan Marshall of Humboldt State University. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring over an extended period, often a career.
Dr. Marshall has been actively engaged in teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate students for over 25 years. Throughout her career, she has taught a wide variety of courses in Rangeland and Ranch Planning, Wildland Resource Principles, Vegetation Analysis and Health, Forest and Range Soils, Soil Microbiology, Soil Fertility, Soil Physics and the Origin and Classification of Soils. Students and colleagues consistently highlight Dr. Marshall’s enthusiastic teaching, commitment to high-quality experiential, field-based learning and her dedication to helping students become agents of positive change. A colleague recently described Dr. Marshall as “an educator’s educator”, with a “commitment to learning and education that is deep and wide” who “recruits students to rewarding careers with an educational emphasis on multi-cultural learning opportunities” and a strong commitment to “increasing the diversity of our student population and workforce”.
